Look at the Lecture 2 post

Observations on Isaiah 43:15-21 - use the ESV version posted on the blog

Make sure you aren't reading any commentaries or notes in your Bible.

Do a couple pages of observations (be thorough) and then post a couple observations by Thursday midnight!

Don't forget to comment on someone else's post from last week's assignment

Good job this week everybody!

  1. LETS MAKE IT SIMPLE...

    1) I HAVE OBSERVED SOME MIGHTY THINGS THAT GOD IS ABLE TO DO.

    15- CREATOR OF ISRAEL,
16- MAKES A WAY IN THE SEA, A PATH IN THE MIGHTY WATERS
19- I AM DOING A NEW THING, I WILL MAKE A WAY IN THE WILDERNESS AND RIVERS AND IN THE DESERT
20- I GIVE WATER IN THE WILDERNESS, RIVERS IN THE DESERT
21- THE PEOPLE WHOM I FORMED

    2) IN THIS VERSE IT CLEARLY STATES WHY GOD CREATED PEOPLE.

21- THE PEOPLE WHOM I FORMED FOR MYSELF THAT THEY MIGHT DECLARE MY PRAISE

    3) WHO IS GOD TALKING ABOUT IN THESE VERSES ?

A)17- WHO BRINGS FORTH CHARIOT AND HORSE, ARMY AND WARRIOR

B)17b- THEY LIE DOWN, THEY CANNOT RISE, THEY ARE EXTINGUISHED , QUENCHED LIKE A WICK

    4) WHO IS SUPPOSED TO PERCIEVE THE NEW THING THAT IS BEING DONE?

19- BEHOLD I AM DOING A NEW THING; NOW IT SPRINGS FORTH, DO YOU NOT PERCIEVE IT?

    5) WHAT IS THE NEW THING BEING DONE?

    6) WHEN READING VERSE 20 MY QUESTION IS. WILL THEY STILL HONOR HIM IF HE DOES NOT DO THOSE THINGS?

    7) WHY DO THE BEASTS AND JACKALS AND OSTRICHES HONOR HIM FOR GIVING WATER TO HIS CHOSEN PEOPLE? VERSE 20

    8) WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE QUENCHED LIKE A WICK? VERSE 17

  2. Sandy's observations

What seems impossible to us is possible with God. He makes way for us when there seems to be no way.

16 who makes a way in the sea, a path in the mighty waters.

19b I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.

20b I give water in the wilderness, rivers in the desert.

21 the people whom I formed for myself that they might declare my praise.

In that verse He is talking about Israel but also refers to us as well.

19 the "new thing" that would be a new life with Christ and refering to Israel but also us as well.

I'm not sure how to answer the rest of your questions.

  3. Larry

i love how you made the connection of mighty things God has done...good questions also. The more you observe, the more it will be clearer...you can also observe a few verses outside either side of the passage if you need a little bit bigger context.

Pretty cool that one of the reasons God made us is to praise him. Remember that this is A reason God made us and not THE ONLY reason. Many people make this error in interpreting scripture. We try to make a certain claim exclusive from other possible claims

    Good stuff Larry!

  4. Sandy, try to avoid actually answering the questions right now...that is for a later step...we are also not applying any of this to us yet...after further study, we may find that not everything applies to us

Glad you are commenting on other posts though...we're still trying to figure out this observation thing...very foreign to us and how we usually jump to wrong conclusions and misinterpret scripture.
